TOURIST HOT SPOT: ATKINSON CLOCK TOWER

Standing prominently on the hill side of Signal Hill, the Atkinson Clock Tower is one of the oldest structures in Kota Kinabalu. The clock tower was built in 1903 and is all-wood with no usage of nails. Built in memory of Francis George Atkinson, who was the first District Officer of Jesselton during the British North Borneo Chartered Company Administration, who had succumbed to a tropical disease at the young age of 28. The Atkinson Clock Tower survived the destruction of Jesselton town during World War II and it’s still keeping the city’s time. A magnificent structure of history and art, the Atkinson Clock Tower is one of Kota Kinabalu City’s attraction to date.
