THE SUMANDAK MOVEMENT: MY NAME IS NOT HEY BABY

Were you ever harassed on the streets, or just whenever you go? Well, people just need an eye opener. And "The Sumandak Movement: My Name Is Not HEY BABY" will do exactly that. Inspired by the worldwide movement Against Street Harassment, "The Sumandak Movement" is a compilation of real life stories of street and sexual harassments faced by women (and men) not only in Sabah, but around.

Written and directed by Jasmine King and co-written by May, "The Sumandak Movement" will be broken down into six short stories, or 'chapters', with a variety of genres - monologue, experimental theatre, comedy, poetry slam, and short videos - that comes together to form a rich and insightful production.

This movement won't only break the silence for the voiceless but it also breaks the stereotypes of street harassment being 'normal'. It is something that women get, and something that men do" as well breaking taboo topics relating to sexual assaults. On top of that, this production aims to educate women and men alike that street harassment is NOT normal, that public masturbation/display is NOT normal, that rape culture should STOP and it is our duty as society - as fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, partners, girlfriends, boyf riends and friends - to be educated and to educate others.
