HYATT REGENCY KINABALU CELEBRATES CHINESE NEW YEAR WITH HOTEL GUESTS AND MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC

Hyatt Regency Kinabalu is no stranger to hosting auspicious celebrations for its guests and members of the public; this year they were treated with a 5-star lion dance performance on the second day of Chinese New Year to usher in the year of the horse.

The spectacular performance by Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Yick Nam Inanam enthralled everyone, especially the hotel's foreign guests who had never witnessed such a grand appreciation for centuries old tradition. The award winning troupe showcased their acrobatic skills; the lion set out  on a quest to pluck the auspicious green vegetables, hanged high from the ground. The lion dance is an important tradition for the Chinese community which believed the lions and the drum beats to bring good luck, fortune and happiness.

Hyatt Regency Kinabalu’s Board of Directors, comprising Chairman Datuk Gordon Leong, Director Chua Soon Ping, and hotel’s general manager Arifin Darmawan, Director of Sales and Marketing Reuben Lim and Director of Finance Wilis Prastowo among others, were all present during the performance.

The 8 lions, representing prosperity, later visited all public areas and back areas of the hotel property to “bless” the offices and bring good luck. A few more lions continued to entertain the throngs of hotel guests and local patrons by posing for pictures and showing them their dance moves.
