SIDE STREET AVENUE AT KEPAYAN POINT

The moment you decide to dine at Side Street Avenue, you are at the mercy of the “hot chubby chef” and his meals that come in epic proportions. The food was a show unto itself so it’s truly worth the commute from wherever it is you are currently stationed. As we watched our gigantic but affordably priced meals being served to our table, we knew we had to split each meal between the two of us but that’s not an issue at all ‘cause you can pretty much eat it from maybe four different angles and still enjoy every bite. After all, where else can you find good food and great service without a hurricane of a bill..?

So, let us break it down for ya!

"Karabaw Salad", RM13
"Karabaw Salad" is the perfect entrée if you’re having one of those nights when you feel like a salad, but don't want to feel hungry minutes after you are done. Bursting with a feast of flavors, the "Karabaw Salad" is composed of seared and marinated chicken served atop a bed of crisp lettuce, purple cabbage and sliced olives, among other things. The fusion of Western and Asian ingredients, especially the light vinaigrette, is a reminiscent of summers spent abroad – the chicken cutlets are as juicy as a hot gossip!

Nachos, RM13
So nachos, so sinful! But wait, Side Street Avenue’s nachos are served with a nifty twist; the baked corn tortillas are served with a bowl of spicy minced beef (for dipping) with cheesy dressing on the side, so they’d never get soggy and you have the choice to go big or go home! The essential ingredients are churned garden-fresh, so you can really taste the richness and freshness of the tomatoes, onion, chili peppers, cilantro, salt, and lime juice. Thanks to its fabulous smokey flavor and generous serving, it also makes for a great meal too!

Junky Chili Dog, RM16
One does not simply question the credibility of a chili dog, especially not when the chili dog is deep fried, enveloped in spicy minced beef salsa and comes with a complementary potato chips on the side. The spicy minced beef salsa is zesty with sharp hint of spiciness (it's not too spicy and not too sweet either) and it’s so much more delicious and worth the RM16 compared to the conventional chili, mayonnaise and mustard chili dog. The Junky Chili Dog barks (pardon the pun) more taste than boring uniformity.

Sir Johnny Depp, RM16
No take-out burgers in town can rival Side Street Avenue’s Sir Johnny Depp; if you have a “thang” for rockin’ burgers and you like ‘em big, then this is it. Flanked between two baked bread (that have just enough power to hold up to all that deliciousness) is a chunky piece deep fried boneless chicken – its top part lightly saturated with caramelized pineapple and melted cheddar cheese, served with lettuce, purple cabbage, tomatoes and potato chips on the side. There’s a little bit of zest from the pineapple and a little bit of picante from the combination of the other ingredients – it’s kind of scandalous and we think it’s great for sunny evenings.

El Classico (beef or chicken), RM18
Refuel and recover with the right balance of protein and carbs in a peppery hand-held package with the El Classico; a tortilla wrapped marinated beef or chicken with selected spices and sautéed with onion and mushroom and served with mango pickle and potato chips on the side. Fleshy and exquisitely full of flavor, you’ll find yourself asking for more even before you’re done licking your fingers.

Salmon Steak, RM28
Many have experimented with different flavorings for salmon steaks – many have choked in their attempt, but Side Street Avenue seemed to have got it right. The grilled salmon is glazed with a secret homemade teriyaki sauce and served with fresh salad and roasted potato – simple and direct to the point, the flavors added a wonderful contrast and a subtle accent to this classic salmon steak. Distinctively savory, tangy and elegantly presented, the marinade complements the salmon's natural delicious flavor – those with an appreciation for the good ol’ salmon steak without the unnecessary trimmings will surely love this!
