TOURIST HOT SPOT: TAMU DONGGONGON PENAMPANG

One of the busiest markets in Sabah, Tamu Donggongon (situated in Greater Kota Kinabalu, a district called Penampang) is well know for their 'lihing' (rice wine), jars of 'bambangan' (pickled wild mango) and 'tuhau' (ginger-like plant pounded and mixed with lime juice, onion and chillis), and for the truly daring, sago worms. Are you brave enough to try it?

Located at the heart of Penampang town, it is quite a sight to behold; everything from fresh fruits, vegetables and handicrafts ca be found here and the local hawkers are some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. They're always keen for a chit chat and if you show your ingenuity, they might even give you a discount!

Penampang town is made up of a close-knit community with a unique blend of the old and new, fringed by sprawling paddy fields and "kampung" (village) houses. But it's also a bustling business centre and located just a mere 15 minutes drive from Kota Kinabalu city.
