TOURIST HOT SPOT: PETAGAS WAR MEMORIAL

Living in such a beautiful state has its own price. As many as 176 brave Sabahan guerrillas sacrificed their lives defending Sabah against the Japanese force in the World War II. The Petagas War Memorial was then build on the exact same place to commemorate the courageous guerrillas that were massacred on the 21st of January, 1994 during the Japanese occupation in World War II.

Their bravery is still being honored to this day with memorial service which is held every year, on the 21st of January. The names of the fallen were engraved on ornamental plates and well-maintained lawn covers the whole memorial ground. The best part about the Petagas Memorial Park is that it's free entrance for all and it's also a perfect place for picture taking.

Getting there:
Two choices; by riding a bus, or taking a taxi. A taxi will cost about RM17.00 from the city center. If you feel a little adventurous while saving some bucks, take Bus No. 17, headed for Putatan. The bus will be in front of Marina Court (right next to Promenade Hotel) and it'll cost RM2.00 per person. Be sure to inform the bus driver beforehand so he can bring you to a proper drop off point.
