Department of State Railway (SSR)
is a department in the State of Sabah, Malaysia, which operates the railway
network in the state. It is the only rail transport system operating on the
island of Borneo. The railroad is over 134 km from Tanjung Aru, near Kota
Kinabalu to Tenom town, a scenic rural area. Previously, it was known as North
Borneo Railway Service.

Beaufort Range - Tenom through
the Padas River rafting offers a very attractive scenery. Furthermore, the
train itself is also a tourist attraction, and historic tourist train North
Borneo Railway is operated by Sutera Harbour to conquer the market of tourism
in Sabah. The train is a perfect way for visitors that wants to have a light adventure as well as seeing the different part of Sabah by visiting the outskirts.

Getting There:
Two ways to get there; one by bus, two by taxi. Or you can hitch a ride if you're feeling a little adventurous. If you want to get there by bus, then you should be taking bus number 17B to Putatan from the temporary bus station, in front of Marina Court. Inform the bus driver to drop you off at a proper drop off point and it will cost about RM 1.50 per person. Bus rides are only available from 6.30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Taxi on the other hand will cost you about RM15 per person.
