TOURIST HOT SPOT: KIPANDI BUTTERFLY PARK


Located at Kampung Kipadi, Moyog, the Kipandi Butterfly Park is a beautiful wondrous park surround by the Crocker Range hill. The park is situated approximately 35 kilometers from Kota Kinabalu city.


Prepare to be welcomed by the sounds of cicadas and birds upon entering the park. Over hundreds of butterflies species are recorded within the park, among  which are some of the rarest in the world such as the Troides Brookiana (Raja Brook's Birding), Troides Amphrysus (Golden Birding), Papilio Karna (Peacock's Swalloe Tails) and many more.



Visitor could also visit the Insect Museum with over 1,500 species of butterflies and over 3,000 beetles along with many endemic species that are only found in the Crocker Range are recorded. 

The park also includes a variety of endangered species of plants, like the Sabahan orchids and pitcher plants. Most of these plants were salvaged from fallen trees during deforestation for agriculture and architecture purposes. To date, the Native Plants Collection Park has recorded over 500 species of native orchid, species of Hoyas, Lipstick Flower Aeschunathus, Carnivorous and Medicinal plants.


Educational programs were also initiated within the park for school students. It is a free educational guided walk for children, aimed to raise awareness among the younger generation of Sabah's preciously delicate entomofauna.

*Best time to spot butterflies are between 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Getting There
Kipandi Butterfly Park is accessible via the long-distance bus to Tambunan and Keningau. Visitor may also take the taxi up to the park.
